NEW FLAGGING PROCEDURES FOR 2011 From FIFA to CSA to OSA - Flag techniqueIt is recommended that an assistant referee holds the flag in his hand nearest to the field of play by switching hands whenever he changes his direction of movement so that the flag is visible to the referee at any time. When facing the field of play the flag should be in the hand closest to where the referee is positioned (this is normally the left hand). When reaching a position level with the Penalty Area, and from there to the goal line, the assistant referee, when side stepping, will switch and carry the flag in his right hand. The flag should be raised using the hand that will also be used for the next signal in the sequence. If circumstances change and the other hand must be used for the next signal the assistant referee must lower the flag and move the flag to the opposite hand below the waist. How to Register and Current Referee Classification On January 1st of 2009 the Canadian Soccer Association created a new classification system for referees in Canada. Inside the following link shows you about refereeing registration and how the old referee classification system was changed to the current referee classification system.OSA How to Register Link Referees RETURNING FULL-FIELD REFEREES: All returning referees were emailed their username and password for the online registration. Each year, a returning referee must register with the Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) before they are permitted to referee a game.Referee registration has begun and the deadline to register without incurring a late fee is March 31st. A referee can register after April 1st, but he or she will be charged a late fee of $15 on top of their registration fee. There are two ways to register: 1. ONLINE REGISTRATION 2.
